rebuilding the 1971 BMW R75/5

stripping down to frame and engine

photographs of the origional seat for the upholsterer

fully stripped down- engine in-everything was pretty corroded and rusty.all alloy components were cleaned, hand buffed and polished and the black frame and other steel components were rubbed back and black enameled with a brush

mikuni 32mm carbs were stripped down and overhauled. I dont have a photographic record here of the work done...heads and barrels were stripped down..new pushrod stem seals, polished valves, adjusted tappets..removed carbon buildup from pistons etc..new points, condensors, and some wiring replaced

disaster-seat shell was badly damaged by engineering shop where sandblasting was done-it appeard to be run over by a forklift or some such thing. They denied damaging it..note that the damage was done AFTER it was sandblasted and prime coated..look at it! They claimed I took it to them like this in the first place..what!! I had to restrain myself from whacking the dude after hearing that! Cost me $200 to have made good by a panelbeater..

the tank needed some serious sanding grinding and light filling..I did most of the hard work myself..though I enlisted the help of my friend, panelbeater wayne griffiths, to the final stuff and the priming and topcoating..even though I am a cabinetmaker by trade and am familiar with sanding, filling and spraying..I have mostly worked with flat surfaces..all the compound curves here were best left to an expert

new after market mufflers..nothing fancy really..but they look pretty good, and sound fabulous
